Our full-service, AASHTO-accredited lab, Construction Materials Testing Group (CMTG), goes beyond standard QA/QC testing. Cutting-edge equipment and in-depth expertise empower us to ensure the integrity and durability of materials used in Kansas City’s infrastructure projects.
We offer data-driven insights that reduce lifecycle costs, giving you confidence that each project is built on a foundation of proven materials and validated performance.
CMTG is an AASTHO-accredited lab operating in compliance with national and international standards for construction materials testing.
We aim to lead the industry in materials testing and pavement innovation. That means offering difference-making solutions — not just reporting data.
We pursue every opportunity to dive into emerging testing technologies, specification updates, and performance-based design practices.
Our laboratory team leads the industry in processes and innovation.
Our team inspects and tests hot mix, both in the lab and out in the field. Lab tests assess mix design, aggregate properties, and binder temperature. On site, we monitor placement, compaction, and density.
From slump and air content to temperature and compressive strength, our technicians determine samples’ adherence to building codes and specifications.
We carefully extract and prepare soil samples in accordance with best practices, identifying pollutants, determining soil composition, and providing clients with quality data with which to make decisions.
We test for cracking resistance (Ideal-CT/I-FIT), rutting (Ideal-RT), moisture sensitivity and rutting resistance (Hamburg Wheel Tracking), and low-temperature cracking performance (Disk-Shaped Compact Tension/DCT).
Do your materials make the grade? We analyze customer-supplied aggregates for shape, texture, gradation, water absorption, soundness, quality, and more.
Superior Bowen subjects binders to serious scrutiny — we look at ductility, direct tension, and composition, then simulate short- and long-term aging.
RAP mixes need to be specially vetted for composition and performance. We perform a battery of tests designed to measure residual binder content, integrity, cohesion, stiffness, and more.
CMTG works closely with Superior Bowen. That integration provides our technicians with a unique perspective. Over the years, they’ve supported projects of all types: public and private, all scopes and budgets.
Yes, they know how to deliver accurate, dependable data… but they also understand the importance of solving problems and getting timelines (and quality) back on track. When you partner with us, you get answers and expert guidance.
