JE Dunn hired Superior Bowen as the site work contractor responsible for mass excavation and haul off. We placed all aggregate on the site, including the material required for building pad establishment, roadways, and parking areas. Once the site was ready, Superior Bowen’s crews dug concrete footing and foundations for the upcoming parking structure and our asphalt team paved all surfaces.
UNIQUE CHALLENGES
The east portion of the underground parking structure required Superior Bowen to excavate an especially deep foundation in a very tight spot — it was hemmed in by a nearby live electrical duct bank, which fed power to the existing building. We performed exploratory excavation and testing, which gave our engineers enough information to requalify the soil as type B. This change allowed our crews to slope the soil back at a 1:1 ratio, which eliminated the need for shoring and resulted in significant cost savings for the owner.
