OUR SCOPE

Superior Bowen was selected by the City of Olathe to reconstruct and improve Black Bob Road from 159th Street to south of 167th Terrace. The project included construction of a reinforced concrete box structure at the southern end of the corridor to convey stormwater through the existing creek, installation of a new roundabout at the intersection of 167th Street and Black Bob Road, roadway widening, sidewalk improvements throughout the project limits, installation of new streetlights, and construction of cast-in-place retaining walls.

These improvements were designed to enhance traffic flow, increase safety, improve pedestrian accessibility, support long-term roadway stability, and accommodate the area’s continued growth.

Unique challenges

One of the most significant challenges on this project was maintaining access for residents living along the corridor while major construction activities were underway. With numerous homes located directly on Black Bob Road, residents required safe and reliable access throughout the day.

The project also required careful coordination of multiple roadway, drainage, retaining wall, and utility improvements within an active transportation corridor. To minimize disruptions, our team implemented detailed traffic control plans and maintained close coordination with residents, stakeholders, and utility partners. These proactive efforts allowed construction to progress efficiently while prioritizing the safety and accessibility of the surrounding community.
