Electrical Line Contact / Strike Procedure
1. Stay on the equipment if it is safe to do so until the line is confirmed de-energized.
- Never assume all lines are visible or de-energized.
- The equipment and surrounding area may still be energized.
If you must exit due to fire or immediate danger:
- Jump clear of the equipment with both feet together.
- Do NOT touch the equipment and the ground at the same time.
- Shuffle your feet or bunny hop away to avoid step potential.
2. Clear all personnel from the area.
- Keep everyone at a safe distance.
3. Call 911 immediately.
- Ensure someone on-site makes the call and provides the exact location.
4. Once the area is secure, notify your Supervisor and the utility provider.
5. Do NOT touch any downed lines.
- Only the utility company is authorized to handle them.
6. Notify Willard Barry or Kandy Terpstra.
7. Call 811 to report the utility strike.
