Superior Bowen

Patrick O’Donnell is currently Vice President at Superior Bowen Asphalt Company in Kansas City, MO. He joined the company in late 2019, as part of the acquisition of O’Donnell & Sons Construction, bringing 20+ years of experience in the road construction industry. Patrick started at O’Donnell & Sons as an estimator, growing into various other roles at the company over the years, including project management, operations, business development, administration, and risk management. His current focuses at Superior Bowen are estimating, project management, and building relationships with customers, clients, and municipalities throughout the area.

Willard graduated from Central Missouri State University in 1998 earning a Bachelor of Science in Safety Management. Prior to joining Superior Bowen Willard worked as a Safety Director for two construction companies in the Kansas City area. Willard maintains the certification of Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Willard has served on several safety committees and is past president of both the Safety Alliance of Kansas City and the Construction Safety Group of Kansas City. Willard and his wife Elise reside in Lee’s Summit with their two children.

Superior Bowen

Angela has been in commercial construction for over twenty-five years and specifically as a Project Manager for General Construction for the last fifteen. She joined Superior Bowen in August of 2013. Angela received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Based Information Systems from Park University in December 2001. She has direct relationships with all individuals involved in each project, including, but not limited to, owners, architects, engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and all interoffice staff. She is always interested in building professional relationships, as well as contributing to positive project morale. Her skills and experience include AGTEK Earthwork software, estimating, and project managing for commercial retail centers, healthcare facilities, schools, and churches.

Superior Bowen

Mike is an Estimator for Superior Bowen. He joined the company in 2021. Mike spent the first 26 years of his career with APAC-Kansas. During his time with APAC, Mike held various roles, the final 10 years as Area Manager of the Kansas City construction division. Mike spent the previous 7 years as President of Overland Corporation, an asphalt company in Southern Oklahoma. Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and family, watching all sports, and playing golf and pickleball.

Superior Bowen

David graduated from Kansas State University in 1997 earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He began his career working as a Project Engineer for an engineering firm before switching to quality control and working for two asphalt paving companies. David joined Superior Bowen in 2017 as a Quality Control Manager and moved to the Estimating department in 2019. His primary focus is on KDOT and MoDOT projects. David is a licensed engineer in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Iowa. David and his wife Julie reside in Kansas City with their two children.

Earl started working in the construction industry in 1991 as a laborer for a concrete company. After several years as a labor foreman, he moved to a dirt company as a laborer and pipe-layer. Earl was promoted to grade-checker where he also laid rock and shot elevations. In 2001, Earl’s employer worked alongside Superior Bowen on a project. Earl’s hard work and the overall success of the project led to him becoming a part of Superior Bowen in 2001. His time with Superior Bowen has been spent as a Grading Superintendent and a Project Manager. Earl has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, Industrial Technologies, and Construction Management and graduated with honors.

Among Brian’s many responsibilities as both a project manager and manager of paving operations is helping to ensure that Superior Bowen’s superintendents have what they need to succeed. That might include facilitating communication with a project owner, empowering superintendents to share knowledge among their teams and overseeing day-to-day operations to help work proceed on time and on budget. Brian has nearly 30 years of experience in the paving industry and accumulated much of his knowledge through firsthand experience. He started his career running a screed and worked his way up to a superintendent and project manager before joining Superior Bowen in August of 2018, where he’s thrived in what he calls “a really good support system” and a team-oriented company culture. Some people may balk at Brian’s lengthy commute — he drives to Kansas City from St. Joseph every day. And like any good project manager, he puts that time to use by thinking through a particular project issue or simply appreciating what he helped create. “After you build a road, you get to drive on it,” Brian said.

Superior Bowen

John joined Superior Bowen in 2019 as a Project Manager. Prior to joining Superior Bowen, he worked for the City of Mission, Kansas first as Public Works Superintendent and then as Director of Public Works in 2013. In this position he oversaw all aspects of the department, including Capital Projects. This experience was extremely valuable, as it allowed him to understand the ownership side of projects, similar to what is performed at Superior Bowen. John graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management. He started his career with a family-owned construction company. In his career, he has completed a number of civil projects including road, bridge, and sewer improvements. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, boating, and supporting local sports teams.

Superior Bowen

Guy Myer is a Project Manager at Superior Bowen. Prior to working at Superior Bowen, he held many roles in the construction industry. He began his career as a flagger for Bettis Asphalt in 1993 and has operated just about every piece of paving equipment there is in his career, and has experience working on nearly every aspect of building roads. He came to Kansas City in 2000 and worked for APAC for ten years before joining the Superior Bowen team in 2010. Guy worked as an Operator and then a Paving Superintendent before being promoted to Project Manager in 2020. He is the proud father of four children and enjoys motorcycles, camping, and enjoying Kansas City’s night life with his friends.

Matthew Weyer is a Project Manager with Superior Bowen. He began his career in 2006 as an Engineering Consultant with KDOT where he supervised contractors and employees on various projects. While there, he also supervised projects consisting of asphalt, concrete, erosion control, bridges, and pipe. In 2014 he joined the Superior Bowen team as a Paving Superintendent where he supervised paving crew on various projects, performed all spray paver work, and was involved in the oversight of many large projects involving detail-oriented work. After some time as Paving Superintendent he was promoted to Project Manager. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing.

Superior Bowen

Jose has 23 years of experience within the asphalt industry. In 1997 he started his career in exploratory rock drilling and moved up through the ranks to Quality Control Supervisor at a large volume hot mix asphalt. In 2012, Jose accepted the position of Hot Mix Manager/R&D Technician at a family-owned asphalt emulsion and polymer modified HMA establishment in Kansas City, Missouri. Jose is an expert in testing procedures for aggregate, concrete, asphalt cement, HMA, industrial cutbacks and asphalt emulsions. He is experienced in specialty asphaltic products for roofing, waterproofing, and road maintenance applications. He has acquired numerous state and national certifications from Kansas, Missouri, and the Asphalt Institute. Jose has also aided multiple companies in acquiring AMRL accreditations. Currently Jose is a Quality Project Manager for Superior Bowen. In his spare time, he and his wife Mindi along with their five children Quinton, Mia, Noah, Xavier, and Joseph enjoy participating in the children’s school and sports event, going to car shows, golfing, and watching the Chiefs and Royals games.

Superior Bowen

Grant originally came to Superior Bowen in 1989 while completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Missouri, eventually joining full time in 1996. He gained experience in many facets of the company, finally settling into a role with the Quality Control Department in the late 90’s. Currently, Grant serves as the Project Quality Manager for Superior Bowen. He has acquired numerous certifications in both Kansas and Missouri as well as helping acquire national accreditation through AMRL for the QC Department of Superior Bowen. When he’s not at work, Grant, his wife Jennifer, and children Remington and Gabrielle enjoy life in a small northwestern town in Missouri playing sports and other leisure activities.

Superior Bowen

After beginning his career as an inspector with KDOT in 2001, Justin came to Superior Bowen as an asphalt technician in 2005. Justin worked hard to learn all aspects of quality control, becoming certified for lab and field inspection in both Kansas and Missouri. He also attended NCAT’s first class on Balanced Mix Designs. Justin uses his degree in education from Pensacola Christian College to train others in quality control related areas. He and his wife Angela have 2 kids whom they love chasing around the soccer field and baseball diamond. He also enjoys watching KU (even football), the Royals, the Chiefs, and Sporting KC.

Superior Bowen

Jeff has worked in Information Technology for over eighteen years. His years of technology experience in retail, small business, non-profit, county school system, government, and large business enterprise afford him a comprehensive outlook on IT. Jeff believes strongly in continuing, vocational education which is made evident by his degrees in Computer Science, Cinematography, and Speech Performance Education along with twenty-two certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, Apple, and Adobe to name a few. His role as IT Director allows him to leverage technology as a tool for optimizing and enhancing the business efforts. Away from the job, Jeff enjoys community outreach efforts, golfing, reffing USSF soccer, and expanding his computer animation portfolio.

Kevin has served in a variety of roles over his over forty years with Superior Bowen. He came to the construction world directly out of Benedictine College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration whilst playing basketball and soccer. Kevin’s career began running a new venture for Bowen Construction in 1979 and he quickly moved into the role of superintendent and later a project manager. His current role is Field Estimator where he is able to practice his expertise in special projects. Kevin enjoys playing golf, coaching football and basketball, as well as traveling with his wife Mary.

Mike has been an estimator at Superior Bowen for twenty-four years. He received his degree in Construction Science and Management from Kansas State University in 1993 and is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators.

Superior Bowen

Richard joined Superior Bowen in January of 2013 and brings over thirty-five years experience as a general superintendent on site development projects. Some notable projects he has worked on include Downtown Entertainment District, Valencia Place, Stowers, Kauffman, New Longview, Blue Parkway, KC Chiefs expansion, Plaza West Edge, Blue Ridge Redevelopment, Truman Landing, Liberty Commons, KCI Satellite Lots, and dozens of residential subdivisions in the greater Kansas City area. Richard oversees Superior Bowen’s site superintendents in planning and scheduling day-to-day tasks, coordinates with subcontractors for Superior Bowen, and meets with the owners to ensure key goals are met in the most effective and productive manner for a top quality project.

Tim serves as a project manager for Superior Bowen and is currently involved in their highway projects for MoDOT. During his thirteen years of construction experience, he has served as a field superintendent, total process manager, and quality manager. He holds a B.A. degree in Business from Benedictine College and has significant post-graduate hours from UMKC. Tim enjoys coaching basketball in his spare time and loves spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters.

Laurence joined the company in 2020 through its acquisition of O’Donnell & Sons Const. Co. Inc., a third-generation civil construction family business based in Overland Park, KS. He worked on O’Donnell & Sons’ asphalt and concrete crews during high school, and in 2017 he joined the business and served as HR Director, Safety Officer, Insurance Manager, and Project Superintendent. Prior to that, he had an academic and ministerial career as a Licentiate in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, an adjunct teacher at Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, and PhD student and teaching assistant at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids. Laurence has published several essays and reviews in peer-reviewed academic journals, and from 2009 to 2017 he served as associate editor of the Bavinck Review. He holds a BA summa cum laude in interdisciplinary studies from Clearwater Christian College, a MDiv from Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, a ThM from Calvin Theological Seminary, and he is a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honors Society. Laurence enjoys reading, writing, strength training, kamado grilling, and spending time with his four children and two Labradors.

Superior Bowen

Chet is a Maintenance Superintendent with Superior Bowen and began at the company in 2020. He began his career proudly serving in the Marine Corps where he led a team of 25 Marines as a Corporal. He has spent the remainder of his career in the Heavy Truck repair industry, most recently as a Shop Foreman and Safety Chair for MHC Kenworth. There he led over 30 diesel technicians while also developing new safety measures and promoting a culture of safety and accountability. He is safety-conscious with an in-depth proficiency in all aspects of transportation management and sales including but not limited to DOT, OSHA, Safety training and programs, HazMat, training, and retention. Outside of work, Chet, his wife Chelsea, and their new baby boy Wade spend as much time as they can outdoors hunting and fishing.
