Our scope
Superior Bowen was responsible for milling approximately 3 inches of existing asphalt pavement down to the concrete base and resurfacing the corridor with a single 3-inch lift of new asphalt using a spray paver. Work covered key interstate segments of I-35 and I-670 through downtown Kansas City, requiring precise execution to meet MoDOT specifications and traffic control requirements.
Unique challenges
This project demanded extensive coordination due to its location on heavily traveled interstate corridors. Crews completed four full weekend closures of I-670 through downtown and I-35 from I-670 north to I-70, requiring substantial manpower, equipment, and teamwork to safely complete large volumes of work within compressed timeframes. The I-35 segment from I-670 south to the Kansas state line was completed under nightly lane closures, adding another layer of logistical complexity.
