OUR SCOPE

Jones Development contracted Superior Bowen to assist with the development of their Free State Exchange project: a site at the intersection of 167th Street and U.S. Route 169 in Olathe, Kansas. We completed over 700,000 CY of mass grading for a 144-acre industrial park development — this included site preparation for a large-scale meat processing facility for Walmart. Our team constructed all sanitary and storm utilities to serve future development on the site.

Superior Bowen also made public infrastructure improvements in partnership with the City of Olathe and KDOT. The city asked us to remove and widen over 1,500 LF of the existing 167th Street, then construct over 3,000 LF of new public street and surrounding infrastructure. That portion of the project included 165th Street and Mackey Street: key thoroughfares in the area. For KDOT, Superior Bowen widened U.S. Route 169, relocated utilities out of the right of way, and installed a new, signalized intersection. Our team finished off the project by pouring concrete sidewalks, trails, driveways, and curb & gutter to complement the new streets.

UNIQUE CHALLENGES

This project required extensive coordination between private and public (state and local) entities. Our team balanced competing timelines, aligning multiple construction projects to achieve a common goal. When design and end goals shifted on adjacent project sites, mass grading had already begun. Superior Bowen’s team adapted during construction to successfully accommodate those changes.
